Quilting with dinnerware

A quilt is when you take some perfectly good fabric, cut it up, and then sew it back together again. What a concept, right?

Yesterday I made a quilt out of dinnerware. That's right - I took some perfectly good plates and bowls, chopped them up (which was a hard thing to do in itself - I can barely close my left hand today), and put the pieces back together again. The first time I'd done this a few months ago, I made a picture frame for a friend. It was small - about 10" by 10" - and I finished it in a day.

This time I'm making a frame for a mirror - 50" x 16". It's still in the works - I need to put some tiles on the inside and outside of the frame, and then grout it. But it's really fun, and a LOT like quilt making. Perhaps the next project will be a big flat surface - a wall hanging of some sort or a very large trivet.
